Excellent choice!

I did not know until I had received it but this was exactly what I was looking for! The song selection is varied from popular to more obscure, several of the songs are originally played with another instrument so to have them collected here in tablature for guitar is great. I did expect that the songs would be in DADGAD like the other celtic guitar book I ordered but all of them seem to be in standard tuning. I keep a guitar tuned to DADGAD but I imagine to one whom enjoys the celtic sound but doesn't want to learn or just change to another tuning this book would be perfect.
I am self taught, not classically trained so I can say that with my short time playing guitar the songs seem to be at a beginner to low intermediate level. I've been playing for about a year and there are a few songs that are challenging, but for me that is part of why this book was just right. One last note; this book, unlike 6 out of 7 of the books I previously owned has a loose enough binding to allow the book to lay flat, on any surface or music stand, so it does not close itself, a convenient feature for one that you can not hold with either hand while reading.

Basic - Beginners only

These are very basic arrangements, with little challenge - OK for beginners - it's a pity that "Beginner" or "Easy" was not included in the title. The book includes the original melody lines and lyrics, with the guitar arrangement in standard notation and tab underneath. There are no chord substitutions, just the original chords and melody; the bass lines are very weak.

Nice addition to your fingerpicking collection

Really beautiful melodies. The tab are all there. There are no songs in "drop D". I have been playing for almost a year now, teaching myself. I am able to play most of the songs which are moderately challenging for me. I'm not saying I have mastered them, but I guess what I am trying to say is there are written so you could memorize them with a little practice. I have been collecting the fingerpicking series and this is one of my favorites so far. I especially like the song Wild Mountain Thyme, it's a really pretty song
