Good book for ID students

This is a quality book for interior design student looking to understand the construction of furniture and what the price point of a custom piece should be. Natale does an excellent job of utilizing text and pictures to educate the reader. My only complaint is the layout of the page numbers- when flipping through the book you have no idea what page you are on- makes a normally quick task time consuming.

Don't Judge a Book by Its Cover-Unfulfilled Promises

The cover on this book is very seductive - it promises to put the reader on the cutting edge of design. Holding the book is your first indication: it's flimsey and feels like it will fall apart with too many openings. The book contains line drawing after line drawing punctuated with a few black and white photographs that are so hard to see, they add no value; and there are no color photographs.

The information contained in this book is not new, not newly presented, not newly discussed. The content is widely available on the Internet or easily purchased in a book for 1/4 the cost. You do learn how some furniture is built and about how joints are designed, all superficially-not in a way that would help you actually complete a joint in your own shop or garage. The learning in the book could be done with a walk through an antique furniture shop.

If you think you're interested in this book, I suggest you go to the library first and look at it. This book was an expensive disappointment. But the cover is cool.

VERY DETAILED

very good illustrations,love the maintenance and breeding info on each species. mr. evers is not afraid to say "i don''t know" in the taxonomy of certain species unlike some other tropical fish authors. a great section on collecting , and biotope information of the amazon. i can't wait for the next one.

This book only contains loricardia type "Sucker Mouthed" catfishes. If they are your thing, then you can expect the typical "Baensch" quality.

On the other hand, if you are interested in corys or pimeloids or syndontis this is definitely not the correct book and you should probably wait for vol. 2 or get Baensch Aquarium Atlas V. 1 or 2 which are both better for the type of cats I like.

Fantastic!

Normally, I have a lot of trouble reading through stories in Spanish, but that is not the case with this one. The stories are pretty easy to follow along with, and the vocabulary lists and activities after the story help comprehension a lot! I would definitely recommend for anyone (especially students and teachers) who are looking for a book on Latin American legends.

About the Author
Now regarded by many as the world authority on Indian food, Madhur Jaffrey was born in Delhi and is an award-winning actress and bestselling cookery author. Her first book, An Invitation to Indian Cookery, was published in 1973 and since then she has written over 15 cookbooks, now considered classics in their field, including Madhur Jaffrey's Ultimate Curry Bible and Madhur Jaffrey's World Vegetarian. She has appeared in over 20 films, including Merchant Ivory's Heat and Dust and Cotton Mary. In 2006 she published her memoir of childhood, Climbing the Mango Trees.

Curries good enough to please the zealots!

I was lucky enough to have a friend from the UK host a curry dinner using the recipes from this book. I was blown away by the authenticity of the curries and the ease with which she was able to make them. I was that taken with the quality of recipes I bought my own copy. I haven't been disappointed.

Seriously, if you want to taste authentic curries without having to travel to Asia, try this book. Just make sure you buy fresh herbs and spices. I recommend buying smaller amounts, so that you only use what you need. That way the spices don't go stale on you.

My whole family absolutely love Madhur Jaffrey and her recipes. I haven't tried one that I didn't like. Her books are always very well presented and easy to follow with ingredients that are not a hassle to get hold of locally. Thanks Madhur for another pearl for my library

Good, but overly detailed

Beasley and Nilkaew have produced a superb textbook on introductory networking, well-suited to the vocational or community college classroom. Its strengths are in its detail, its comprehensiveness, and its step-by-step illustrated walkthroughs of common tasks like making a patch cable or setting up Cisco gear. This is also the book's greatest weakness, though, as it contains much of what I consider to be reference material that a budding technician should NOT be studying when attempting to master key concepts like the OSI model, IP addressing, and Windows command line utilities for the CompTIA exam. In the hands of a qualified instructor, this may be a perfect Network+ textbook... but standing alone, I give it four stars out of five.

About the Author

Christopher D. Moyes received his Ph.D. in Zoology from the University of British Columbia in the area of comparative muscle physiology. After postdoctoral fellowships in molecular physiology at the U.S. National Institutes of Health and Simon Fraser University, he took a position at Queen's University, where he is an associate professor in the Department of Biology. He teaches a spectrum of courses in cell biology and animal physiology, while continuing to pursue his research interests in molecular physiology and biochemistry.

Chris is a recipient of the Premier's Research Excellence Award. He is a member of the American Physiological Society and The Canadian Society of Zoologists and has served on the Natural Science and Engineering Research Council of Canada grant panel for Animal Biology. He is also a member of the Editorial Board of Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology. He has published more than 60 peer-reviewed papers, including contributions to four books. Among his recent papers are Moyes, C.D., and D.L. Hood (2003) "Origins and consequences of mitochondrial variation in vertebrate muscle," Annual Review of Physiology 65: 177-201 and Moyes, C.D. (2003) "Controlling muscle mitochondrial content," Journal of Experimental Biology 206: 4285-4391.

Patricia M. Schulte received her Ph.D. in Biological Sciences from Stanford University in the area of evolutionary physiology focusing on the role that changes in gene expression play in evolution. She is currently an assistant professor in the Department of Zoology at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, where she teaches animal physiology and evolutionary physiology and runs an active research program. Using several species of fish as model systems, her research group is particularly focused on the relationship between genetic variation, performance differences, and fitness in a changing environment. She also conducts research into applied questions relating to fisheries, aquaculture, and aquatic toxicology.

Trish is a recipient of the Premier's Research Excellence Award and several teaching awards, including the UBC Science Undergraduate Society Award for Excellence in Teaching. Trish is a member of the Canadian Society of Zoologists and the Society for Integrative and Comparative Biology. She is an associate editor for the scientific journal Physiological and Biochemical Zoology.

She has published more than 30 peer-reviewed papers, including two book chapters. Among her recent papers are DeKoning, A. B. L., D.J. Picard, S.R. Bond, and P.M. Schulte (2004) "Stress and interpopulation variation in glycolytic enzyme expression in a teleost fish, Fundulus heteroclitus," and P.M. Schulte (2003) "Na+/K+-ATPase alpha-isoform switching in gills of rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) during salinity transfer," Journal of Experimental Biology 206: 4475-4486.

Well Written, Highly Approachable Physiology Textbook

I used this textbook for an intro level animal physiology class. Overall the book is very well written and approachable. Concepts are laid out simply and in an easy to follow format. If you are looking for a detailed look at underlying mechanisms than this book is not for you --but this isn't the focus of physiology as a discipline. Physiology is concerned with the larger relationship between biological structure and function. For instance, why cardiac cells are different from skeletal muscle. In this regard, the book is quite excellent.

This Textbook Is Incredible!!!

I took a killer physiology class and didn't want to buy the latest edition of the textbook because it was way out of my price range. I ended up buying this one and I am so glad I did. This book is incredible for anyone taking a physiology class, especially one that requires it. I hate reading textbooks and much prefer learning from the professor but I found this book easy to read and very very informative. It has the information you need in a format that is interesting so you can actually finish a chapter without falling asleep. I highly recommend this textbook!!!

Well written; just a biology textbook in disguise.
You really have to force yourself to sit down and stare at the paragraphs, but it gets the message across eventually.
Very informative, plenty of pictures.
