Showed some age, otherwise fine.

I was already familiar with Roget's Thesaurus, so I got what I expected. My copy is probably about ten or eleven years old (Editor's preface is dated 2002) and other than somewhat more beige discoloration of the pages that one might expect, the book arrived in good condition including the binding and pages free of former owner's notations or blemishes.

This was a gift for my wife a crossword addict! It arrived promptly in excellent condition and is the hard back edition of the current paperback Thesaurus. Davidson's compilation and the layout make it extremely user friendly and she is delighted with the purchase. The service fron the supplier was excellent and highly recommended

He is eventually rescued by a polar bear in human form who takes the boy to his own community and teaches him the skills necessary to survive in this harsh land. When he is able to hunt and fight, he is returned to his own kind, having been taught how to become a man. Lovely watercolor illustrations dominated by blue and white hues place readers into the chilly landscape and lend credence to this simple, but cruel tale. The lesson of self-reliance is implied in this stilted translation, but not made explicit enough for younger children. The boy shows no gratitude to his animal rescuers, seems to harbor no resentment against his human tribesmen, and has an unknown future. About the Author

Sakiasi Qaunaq has lived most of his life in the Arctic Bay area. His grandmother told him stories as a child and fostered in him a love for traditional legends. In his youth the stories were told for entertainment, but today he feels their retelling is crucial to sustaining Inuit traditions and culture. Eva Widermann is a freelance illustrator and concept artist whose work has been published in a wide variety of books, magazines, and games. Her work has become renowned for its realistic and evocative edge.

Very informative and a lot of fun to read through. I was able to familiarize myself with creatures and races that I'd heard of but was not able to find information on. The timeline was slightly confusing until I realized that the the upper boxes showed the events taking place in Valinor and the lower detailed the events on Middle-Earth.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Richard F. Tscherne (nicknamed "Ranger Rick") served in the United States Army, and is a graduate ofthe U.S. Army Ranger School, the French Army commando School, and the Belgium Army Commando School.
His awards include the U.S. Army Ranger Tab, Master Parachutist Wings, Drill Instructor Badge, Expert Rifleman Badge, Jungle Expert Patch, 5 AAM, 1 ARCOM, 3 MSM, 4 Overseas Ribbons and an assortment of other U.S. military medals.

Know some secret tips and tricks

This series is made by a very knowledgable former Ranger. Rather you are just entering the service or have been in for awhile, you will find something you did not know. Those who are new to the service will find a ton of useful information. While it is all enlightening, you won't use it all but can pick and choose what will help you out. Those that are infantry will probably have the most use for these books since a lot of the tips and tricks improve things that will directly improve your life in the field.

I first read this in 2007. I bought the Kindle edition as I lost my books and want to support the author. The books do look like the paper ones and include the diagrams and pictures.

I was never in the military, so not everything in these applies to me. But I like camping and hiking and this series has given me some ideas on how to pack things and improvise in the field. Good stuff. I would imagine if you were in the military, particularly in an infantry or related MOS, you would really want to read these, although I suspect some thought may have to go into modifying some of the tips to the latest issue gear as these appear to be written in the early 1990s.

I cannot stress how useful this series is to soldiers/Marines who spend a lot of time in the field. Some of the tips are of questionable use in a combat environment, but the ones that are useful will save you a lot of trouble in the sandbox/trash can.

Great Stuff

I am an animation student beginning my study of acting. This book has proved invaluable. It takes you through step by step how to act out a scene (showing the difference between live acting and animated acting when possible). It briefly touches on the Laban acting method which I had never heard before and tells you just enough to let you know you don't know anything about it. The CD accompanying the book shows some video samples of Laban which seemed pretty obvious and unnecessary. It didn't take away from the book. Just didn't add anything for me.

I've heard from so many animators that complain they weren't taught acting. This book is as close to an acting workshop as you'll ever get.

Ed Hooks is a wonderful guy that really knows his stuff when it comes to this particular field of study. His lecture basically covers his book but is worth hearing him tell stories about the studios he's visited and the people he meets. For a deep dive, I recommend students to follow up his book with a book on body language that law enforcement use. I forget the name but it's here on Amazon as well.

This book is very important for who is just starting or for who is already in business for awhile.
Sometimes we're worried too much with body mechanics, arcs, timing, etc.. and we forget about the most important, THE CHARACTER! The character and telling the story are the reason of animating after all, your animation must work accordingly. The books helped me a lot with mindset to approach it wisely.

"HIS COVERS ARE SO GOOD, IT'S CRIMINAL!" - Selina Kyle

With praises from Wonder Woman, Catwoman and almost Theodore Roosevelt, how can this book be bad?

This 208-page hardcover is filled with beautiful illustrations, each reprinted full page on low gloss paper. Nice. Additionally, there are also pencil sketches and layout that look and feel as good. And every cover comes with insightful commentary from Adam Hughes, so you can find out which is his favourite cover or who's his disliked superhero. Besides the paintings, there are also pictures of figurines and other merchandise created for these characters. Cool.

The main characters for this art book are Wonder Woman and Catwoman, occasionally other superheroes from DC (and only DC) as well. The paintings are gorgeous and glorious. The colours, stylized rendering, glow, and the looks on the faces are all so alluring.

My favourite, among other favourites, is the mugshot of Catwoman, with tears mixed with eye shadow streaming down her cheeks. I like the fact that each cover reveals a bit of the personality and story subtly.

Cover Run is a wonderful collection of quality covers.

Curse you, Adam Hughes!

Adam Hughes is a better artist than you. Adam Hughes is a better artist than me. Adam Hughes is depressingly, embarrassingly good, and he's making everyone else look bad.

Adam Hughes must be stopped.

So don't any of you buy this book! If you buy this book, Adam Hughes might know how good he is. He might keep drawing, and he might even, (through some dastardly witchcraft,) become EVEN BETTER. And then I might have to kill myself. So don't any of you buy this book!

Since none of you will be buying this book, because I told you not to... I'll let you know what you're missing.

The first 25 pages showcase some of Hughes' earlier work, from the late `80s to early `90s. The largest section of the book, at about 75 pages, is dedicated to his Wonder Woman covers. Then there're about 50 pages of Catwoman covers, followed by 50-ish pages of miscellany (some Superman/fam, Rose & Thorn, Gen13, JLA, Teen Titans, Power Girl, and Batwoman). This is interspersed with a few double-page spotlights on his merchandise-design work (busts, statues, and posters/t-shirts). All sections include sketches, preliminary thumbnails, and commentary, so you get an idea of how the artist works.

This is not a complete sampling of Hughes' work: as the title indicates, only the stuff he's done for DC is represented here. So unfortunately, that means no Tomb Raider, no Red Sonja, no Star Wars, no Marvel characters. The book can't really be faulted for this: it delivers exactly what's promised on the cover. But here's hoping Hughes' will get the chance to publish more collections.

I mean..! Curse you, Adam Hughes!
