Good First Biochem Book

This is the first time I have taken any Biochem course, and the book has been great. It has a "waiting room" at the beginning of every chapter with people presenting with different symptoms related to the chapter, then the chapter itself is quite dense, but it gives you little clinical tid-bits along the way. The end of each chapter explains the outcome and/or treatment for each patient. It really helps the information stick. I am using this for Biochem as a prereq for PA school, and recommend it for anyone applying to a graduate health science program. After using this book, I really understand the biochemistry of the body, and the balance of body fluid chemistry is something I am very comfortable with. If you are someone who struggled with Organic Chemistry but loved physiology, this book is for you.

Innovative approach to biochemistry for medical students.

The first lecturer in my freshman biochem class was a Nobel Prize winner. I had difficulty staying awake. It can be a boring subject. Practically all the sections were taught by PhDs, intelligent men to be sure, but there was hardly any clinical correlation. We had to wait until junior year for that. Lieberman and Marks were not the first to use a clinical approach, but they are among the best when it comes to presenting a complex subject in meaningful steps. The sections and chapters are well organized. At the end of each chapter are Key Comments, Clinical Comments and Biochemical Comments. The review questions have a clinical slant. I have not read many other current biochemistry books designed for medical students, but I think this is an excellent one.

Good Medical Field Book

If you are planning on going into the medical field and need biochemistry this book is perfect for that It teaches you biochemistry but has real medical examples in the text to demonstrate the concepts. It is also really organized and easy to find stuff.
