The Fat Cat: a repetitive but funny picture book for young readers.

"There once was an old lady who was making some gruel. She had buisness with a neighbor lady, and asked her cat to watch it while she was gone....."
Thus begins a story of a VERY hungry little kitty cat, who not only eats the gruel....but the pot, and the old lady, and more and more! The cat gets fatter and fatter as he goes around eating everybody he meets to the point he resembles a furry hot-air ballon with shorts and a blue jacket. The story is(admittedly)a bit trite and repetitive , but very, VERY funny. I remember owning this as it kid, so I had to get it again. I don't want to spoil the ending, but let's just say the cat gets far worse than just a simple case of indegestion. Maybe a tad on the morbid side, but why complain? It's nothing you couldn't show your little 2 or 3 year old.

My daughter loved this as a child and we literally wore the soft-covered book to a raggedly condition (although we still have it). Got this for my 4-year old granddaughter with the expectation that she will get a similar enjoyment from it. The book arrived ahead of schedule from the Grumpy Gargoyle. This was a new, not a used copy. Very happy with this order.

The Fat Cat is Back: Found my long lost favorite childhood book

I love this book. Had it as a child, some 40 years ago, and thought I'd find it some day. Well, I never did until I looked on Amazon.com. Actually, I found it on Amazon 4-5 years ago, but it was very expensive (like $30.00 or more, if I recall correctly). So, periodically I checked for lower prices and eventually it came down. The book is out of print, so it is rare. The seller got it to me very quickly, and even with a nice personal thank you note. The book was in great shape, and actually looked exactly and precisely like the one from my childhood. It was just what I wanted.

And the story is great. I have always wanted to read it to my boys, which I did the day it arrived. Now, both of them are beyond the age of having Dad read to them, but they loved it. The story is a hoot. Slightly silly, slightly creepy, and lots of fun. Thanks Amazon.

Elster Strikes Gold Once Again.

Elster has done it again with his latest vocabulary building program. I must admit that I was expecting the format to be similar to Verbal Advantage in that after every level, there was a quiz that wasn't just about the words in the level you just completed, but it would also include questions about some of things he would share about the words that were related to other words as well as their origins. There was no pretest or posttest, either (which didn't bother me because this edition was more of a straight read through aside from the familiar quizzes after every ten words). A good number of the words in Word Workout came from Verbal Advantage- he just used them as synonyms for the words in Verbal Advantage, but he expounded on those words in Word Workout. You'd only know that if you perused Verbal Advantage over and over... and then over and over, again (as I have for the past several years). Nevertheless, Elster did an outstanding job with his latest work; it was well worth the wait. I recommend it for the casual word lover, to the serious logophile.

About the Author

Andrew Lang (March, 31, 1844 July 20, 1912) was a Scottish writer and literary critic who is best known as a collector of folk and fairy tales. Lang s academic interests extended beyond the literary and he was a noted contributor to the fields of anthropology, folklore, psychical research, history, and classic scholarship, as well as the inspiration for the University of St. Andrew s Andrew Lang Lectures. A prolific author, Lang published more than 100 works during his career, including twelve fairy books, in which he compiled folk and fairy tales from around the world. Lang s Lilac Fairy and Red Fairy books are credited with influencing J. R. R. Tolkien, who commented on the importance of fairy stories in the modern world in his 1939 Andrew Lang Lecture On Fairy-Stories.

This is an eye opening book for both educators and students alike. I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in education, specially mobile education(mLearning). We all know how technology has contributed to the evolution of learning methods in academia. The access to knowledge is no longer inaccessible based on constraints location or social status and is available to anyone and everyone beyond limitations. Caroline Pukall, Associate Professor, Department of Psychology, Queen's University

Caroline Pukall is an associate professor in the Department of Psychology at Queen's University. Caroline is also the director of the sex therapy service at the psychology clinic at Queen's University, through which she trains and supervises clinical psychology graduate students in sex and couple therapy. Among other published works, Caroline has over 30 articles in peer-reviewed journals and has written numerous book chapters. She is the co-editor of a professional book entitled Female Sexual Pain Disorders: Evaluation and Management (Wiley-Blackwell, 2009); a co-author of When Sex Hurts: A Woman's Guide to Overcoming Sexual Pain (Da Capo Press, 2011); an associate editor for The Journal of Sexual Medicine; and a member of several university-based committees and professional organizations.
